Join the Lanarkshire Police Historical Society
The Lanarkshire Police Historical Society (LPHS) is dedicated to preserving, researching and promoting the history of policing in Lanarkshire and the wider history of policing in Scotland.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in police history, whether you are a serving or retired police officer, a member of police staff, a family member, a researcher, a local historian, or simply someone with an interest in our policing heritage.
Annual membership costs just £10 per year.
Your support helps us to preserve important stories, photographs, documents, artefacts, vehicles and other items of historical significance for future generations.
Why Your Membership Matters
Paid membership is extremely important to the Society and helps us meet the costs associated with our work.
Membership subscriptions contribute towards:
- The upkeep of our vintage police vehicles, including insurance, tax, repairs and fuel.
- Attendance at community, police and historical events throughout the year.
- The purchase and preservation of police memorabilia, artefacts and other items of historical interest.
- The purchase of display cabinets, equipment and materials for our exhibitions and displays.
- The development of the forthcoming Lanarkshire Police Station and Museum within the extended Summerlee Museum of Industrial Life in Coatbridge.
- Production of our quarterly newsletter.
- Corporate membership of The Police Historical Society.
- The continued preservation, research and promotion of Lanarkshire’s policing history.
Every membership subscription makes a valuable contribution to the work of the Society.
A Completely Voluntary Organisation
The Lanarkshire Police Historical Society is run entirely by volunteers.
No member of the LPHS Committee receives any payment or remuneration for their contribution to the Society.
Historical research, administration, exhibitions, events, vehicle maintenance, newsletters, social media, displays and the development of our future museum are all undertaken voluntarily and largely in our members’ own time.
This means that membership subscriptions are used to support the activities, preservation work and future development of the Society.

Annual Membership Subscription
The LPHS membership year runs from 1 October.
The annual subscription is:
£10 per year
Existing members are asked to renew their membership from 1 October each year.
How to Join or Renew
Membership subscriptions can be paid by bank transfer to the Lanarkshire Police Historical Society.
When making payment, please include your name as the payment reference wherever possible.
A membership form is also required for new members, which contains our bank details.

Help Us Preserve Our Policing Heritage
The Lanarkshire Police Historical Society continues to grow, and we have ambitious plans for the future, including the development of a permanent Lanarkshire Police Station and Museum at Summerlee Museum of Industrial Life in Coatbridge.
None of this can be achieved without the support of our members.
