DESCRIPTION:  \n  Lanarkshire Family History Society\nThe speaker at the 
 monthly meeting of the Lanarkshire Family History Society at the Glo Centr
 e\, Motherwell on Thursday 12th March will be former police officer Margar
 et McLean.\n\nWhen Margaret retired as an Inspector at Cumbernauld in 2005
  after 35 years police service\, she found the time to concentrate on her 
 long held interest in genealogy and family history. This led to her comple
 ting a Post Graduate Diploma in Genealogical and Heraldic Studies at Strat
 hclyde University.\n\nAs part of her studies\, she undertook research in r
 espect of those men of the former Lanarkshire Constabulary who had swapped
  their blue serge tunics for khaki uniforms in order to fight in WW1.\n\nA
 mong their number was Constable Jeremiah Shannon who had joined the police
  after service in the Scots Guards and was stationed at Cambuslang when he
  was Recalled to the Colours on the outbreak of WW1. When killed in action
  on the Western Front in 1918\, he was a Lieutenant in the Kings Own Scott
 ish Borderers.\n\nDuring her talk on the Officers of Lanarkshire Constabul
 ary who fell in WW1\, Margaret will recount his story and those of other f
 ormer local policemen who did not return to their Beats in Lanarkshire but
  now lie in foreign lands.\n\nThe talk will begin at 7pm and a welcome is 
 extended to all.\n\n&nbsp\;\n
